A few LAs have reported problems uploading their latest outcomes files to SP-Bench. This has been caused by a change to the way the CHR generate the spreadsheets they distribute to each LA.

Whilst we work with the CHR on finding a way of importing these files directly, please follow these quick steps before uploading your outcomes files:

  1. Open the short or long term outcomes file in Excel, you will likely see a warning telling you about the file format being different to expected, click OK and carry on.
  2. Rename the worksheet to be either Outcomes_ShortTerm or Outcomes_LongTerm, depending on the type of file.
  3. Save the file. If you're running Excel 2007 then make sure you save as Excel 97-2003 format.

The file should now upload as expected and you'll be shown any errors/warnings as usual.

Please let us know if you have any problems!

Just wanted to follow up on this Luke and let you know that I have now created some really useful reports using the outcomes information out of SP Bench

Only one minor glitch with our data and I do not know why and whether you can fix but when I drill down to service level despite all of our service IDs showing in the format 24 - xxxx they are not in numerical order but I have checked a few other Counties and theirs do seem to show in numeric order - any clues??

Yes, it is ordering the services by their SP-Bench internal IDs and not your own Service IDs. The reason the other LAs appear to be in the correct order is because you are seeing the SP-Bench IDs there and not the real ones. We'll have a look into whether it is possible to change this.

I'm really glad to hear that you're finding the tool useful!

Thanks Luke
It would be really helpful if you could as it is putting some of our team off of using Bench which would be sad as it is I think really good.

Hi Luke

I've tried renaming the files but I'm still getting an error message that says 'the type of file you have uploaded is unsupported'

i'm using Excel 2003 if that makes any difference?

Any ideas/

Claire

Hi Claire, please go to this address and send the file to us: SP-Bench File Transfer.
I'll get back to you with the cause of the problem.
